When was Baita Segantini built?

Baita Segantini Passo Rolle

Baita Segantini, built in 1936 by the artist Alfredo Paluselli, is an enchanting place located in a strategic position in the Pale di San Martino, among the most photographed spots in the Dolomites.

Paluselli lived here in solitude for 35 years, inspired by the surrounding nature for his art. The Baita was built out of a tabià (hayloft) in Bellamonte, while the path leading to the Baita was traced by Paluselli himself with a shovel and pickaxe.

The small lake in front of the Baita was also specially created by Paluselli, so that he could admire his beloved Cimon della Pala reflected in the mirror of water.

Baita Segantini can be reached from Passo Rolle via the Capanna Cervino hut, where one can take countless paths, including the Cristo Pensante trek that leads to the summit of Mount Castellazzo. In winter, the Baita is an ideal destination for snowshoeing.
