The little church of Ranui

Ranui Val di Funes

The pretty little church of St John in Ranui, located in the beautiful Val di Funes, is part of the closed Ranui Hof and stands out among the surrounding meadows.

This religious building, characterised by an onion tower and a double-pitched roof, is one of the most photographed subjects in South Tyrol.

Every hiker is fascinated by the baroque chapel dedicated to St John, set in the heart of the Alpine landscape, with its proud bell tower jutting out towards the Odle peaks.
The little church was built in 1744 at the behest of Joseph Anton Von Jenner, cousin of Michael Von Jenner’s niece, as testified by a plaque on the façade.

To reach the little church, simply climb up the Funes Valley and pass the village of St Magdalena. Shortly afterwards, on the right, there is a small road with signs to the little church in Ranui. The little church is a private building and the car park next to it is a starting point for various hikes in Val di Funes, such as the ascent to Malga Brogles and the Odle refuge.
