How do ibexes climb?

How do ibexes manage to climb vertically up rocks?

If you are wondering how these animals, who are not even small, manage to move so nimbly, let us tell you their ‘secret’.

They are equipped with hooves with very special characteristics. In fact, the hoof of these animals consists of a rigid outer part that allows them to have an excellent grip, even in situations where gravitational force is at its limit.

Thanks to its particular conformation, ibexes can cling to very steep rock faces and keep their balance without any problems.

In addition, the hoof also has a soft, rubbery inner part, which provides a kind of brake when the animals walk on the rocks.

Have you ever spotted them on your hikes?
