The Fiemme–Fassa Cycling Trail is one of the wonders you can’t miss. It’s a scenic, safe, and well-maintained route that connects the two valleys through forests, meadows, rivers and small Alpine villages, offering unforgettable views.
The Fiemme–Fassa Cycling Trail stretches for about 48 kilometers from Cavalese (Val di Fiemme) to Canazei (Val di Fassa), following the course of the Avisio Stream. The route has a gentle and steady elevation, making it perfect for both trained cyclists and families with children, even with a child seat or trailer.
The smooth asphalt and numerous rest areas make it pleasant and relaxing: it’s not a sporting challenge, but a journey through postcard-worthy Dolomite landscapes, to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, stopping for a photo, an ice cream, or a picnic under the shade of the fir trees.
The trail is much more than just a connection between two valleys: it’s a gentle journey experience, full of stops that are worth taking a pause.
You can start, for example, from Moena or Predazzo, two villages rich in history and tradition, perfect for breakfast or a gastronomic break. Along the route, you’ll find equipped areas, playgrounds, fountains, small mountain huts, and even suspended bridges crossing the Avisio, offering thrills even for the little ones.
In Pozza di Fassa, you can take a detour for a stop at the QC Terme Dolomiti spa, or enjoy a cultural break at the Ladin Museum in Vigo. And for those looking to end in style, the final stretch towards Canazei offers a spectacular view of the Sella Group and Sassolungo, with the option to combine the cycling trail with a hike or a meal at a mountain refuge.
One of the unique features of this trail is the option to cycle it in just one direction, thanks to the convenient Bike Express Fassa–Fiemme service: a bus equipped with a bike trailer that takes you back to the starting point (available from mid-June to September, by reservation).
Additionally, along the route, you’ll find numerous bike and e-bike rental points, suitable even for children. This makes the cycling trail perfect for those who want to go on a ride without their own equipment, or for those who wish to try an electric bike with pedal assistance.
The cycling trail can be enjoyed from spring to autumn, but the best time is from May to October, when the meadows are green and in bloom, the forests smell of resin, and the landscapes are alive with light and color.
In summer, it’s recommended to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat. Bring water, a light jacket for the descents, sunscreen, and perhaps a blanket for a picnic in the open air.
