Nature has shaped a maze of rocks, narrow passages, gorges, and gigantic boulders that seem straight out of a fairy tale. You walk through natural pinnacles and canyons that formed after part of the Dolomite wall collapsed, now transformed into one of the most original thematic trails in Trentino.

How to get there and where to start

To reach the Latemar Labyrinth, the ideal starting point is Predazzo, in the Val di Fiemme. From here, you can comfortably take the Predazzo-Gardoné cable car, which in just a few minutes takes you to Rifugio Gardoné, at an altitude of 1,650 meters. It is right there that the circular trail through the rocky labyrinth begins. The path is well-marked and suitable even if you’re traveling with children or a trekking stroller (though you might need to carry it by hand in some sections).

Walking among the Dolomite spires, boulders and hidden passages, you’ll feel like a little explorer. If you have the time and energy, you can extend the hike toward Pampeago or Malga Ganischger. In summer, you’ll find a lively yet never crowded atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the mountain. In autumn, however, the warm colors of the larches and the tranquility of the forest offer a completely different kind of magic.

Who is this hike for?

The trail is designed for those who love nature, adventure and imagination. It’s not just a simple walk, but an immersive experience in a wild and fairy-tale-like environment. It’s perfect for families, couples, small groups, and anyone looking to experience a day that’s different from the usual.

The Latemar Labyrinth is accessible from late spring to early autumn. Summer is the ideal time: the meadows are green, the forests lush, and the days long and bright. In autumn, however, the hike becomes a contemplative experience, with the golden larches and the slanting light highlighting the shapes of the rocks. Avoid the winter months: with snow, the trail is not accessible and can become dangerous.

An adventure through history, myths, and geology

Along the path of the Latemar Labyrinth, there are informative panels that make the hike even more engaging. You’ll discover how this extraordinary landscape was formed, with simple and fascinating explanations about the geological history of the massif, shaped by the sea, fire and ice.

But it’s not just about geology: the magic of the Dolomites is also intertwined with myths and legends, such as the one about the king of Latemar and his daughters, who were turned to stone for failing to respect nature.

And when you look around, you understand why. The sharp spires, suspended rock blocks, natural tunnels, and hidden passages between the rocks seem straight out of a fairy tale. Every bend in the trail could become a story, every opening to the landscape an invitation to dream. If you’re with children, you’ll see how this path sparks their imagination, but even as an adult, it’s impossible not to be enchanted.

In the heart of the Latemar massif, one of the most striking mountains in the Dolomites, lies a place capable of making both adults and children dream: the Latemar Labyrinth.
